Can the serial number be found anywhere other than actually on the physical device? Maybe in the web interface somewhere?

The serial number is only on the sticker on the bottom of the unit and many units also have the sticker on the back panel.
Sorry, that means for inventory you will need to actually go and look at each and every unit.
Applying the serial number is one of the last things that are done before the unit is shipped out.
