Hi, Please advise if there is any detailed documentation available to refresh or recover a corrupted
CF in the Nion unit.
Is the same programmed flash suitable for all the variations of Nions (i.e. Nion 3, 6, NX...) or do they differ with each type ??
Rgds.

excellent question

We do not document this as technically there are no user serviceable parts in the NION.  However, the same CompactFlash works in all units.  You can copy the CF from a working unit.  You should always do a firmware update from NWare after replacing it.
It is theoretically possible to recover from some failures by connecting to the unit using the serial port.  However, this requires detailed knowledge of Linux and a set of tools we use internally.
Note that we almost never see this type of failure, I would be curious about how the flash became corrupted.

How do you make a copy of the CF card?  What is the proceedure?

You can't do this with a Windows computer.  It is in "Linux", so if you have a computer running Linux, you could make a exact copy.  Not recommended, since this would be considered copyright infringement.

There should be no need for copying the CF card that is in the NION. All of the important stuff is in your NWare project file.
If someone is having a failure they really need to get in touch with their local support people (the funny thing about me saying this is that AAPL and Phil are both local customer support in their regions on the other side of the world).
The deal is, IF you are having a problem, we (at the home office) NEED to know about it. We will help you fix the problem, but it is important that we know when our customers are having issues. We are here to support you, so please get in touch.
...and yeah, that thing Scott said about copyright infringement is true. The NION is a purpose built machine that uses Linux. While Linux is open source, there is a LOT of custom stuff in the system that was developed specifically for the system.
